Zivver alternative for teams that need a check before send, not secure email
Zivver encrypts sensitive email and warns about wrong recipients, sold per organisation to healthcare, government and legal teams. Presend checks every message each person sends, for $3 a month, and does not encrypt anything.
If you have to send patient, case or citizen data to people outside your organisation, encrypted, with recipient verification and an audit trail, stay with Zivver. Presend does not encrypt and never will. If what you actually need is a person stopped before a careless message goes out, in email and in Slack, LinkedIn and the other places they write, Presend covers that moment, installs in a minute and needs no admin.
What Zivver does
Zivver is a secure email platform from Amsterdam, used by healthcare, government, finance and legal organisations, including NHS trusts and UK councils. While you write, it scans the message and attachments for sensitive data and for common mistakes such as a misaddressed email or To and CC used where BCC was meant, and shows a warning before you send. It then encrypts the message with zero-access encryption, so only the sender and the intended recipients can read it, and recipients verify themselves with a code instead of creating an account. It works in Outlook, Outlook on the web and Gmail, and through secure gateways. Kiteworks acquired Zivver in June 2025.
Why people look elsewhere
- It is bought and rolled out by the organisation. One person or a small team cannot just install it.
- Outlook and Gmail use needs the Professional plan or above, and prices are not on the pricing page.
- It covers email. The same patient detail or password pasted into Slack or a LinkedIn message goes out unchecked.
- It looks for sensitive data, not at the writing. A correctly encrypted email can still read like a chatbot wrote it.

Different Jobs at the Same Moment
Zivver and Presend both act in the seconds before a message goes out. They do different things with them.
Zivver's question is how do we send this safely? It finds sensitive data in the email and its attachments, warns you about a recipient who looks wrong, and then encrypts the message so that only the people it was meant for can read it. For a hospital sending test results or a council sending a case file, that is the whole point, and Presend does not do it.
Presend's question is should this message go out at all, as written? It looks for a password or API key in the body, a card or social security number, a phrase your team has banned, an attachment you mentioned and forgot, and writing that reads like a chatbot. Then it asks you to confirm before you send. It does this in email and in every other place you write.
What Presend Does Not Do
If you are coming from Zivver, be clear about the gaps.
No encryption. Presend checks the message and leaves delivery to your email provider. It has no secure portal, no recipient verification and no proof of who opened what.
No learned wrong-recipient detection. Presend lists every external recipient before you send and lets you write rules about them, such as "warn me when a message mentions a contract value and anyone outside our domain is on it." It does not learn your normal recipients.
No attachment scanning. Presend checks that a message which says "attached" has an attachment. It does not open the file.
No audit trail. Team plans have shared rules and a dashboard of which checks fired. That is not a compliance log.
If any of these is why you bought Zivver, Presend is not a replacement.
What You Get Instead
Anyone can install it. There is no rollout and no gateway. Add the Chrome extension, or the Mac app for desktop Mail, Outlook, Slack, Teams and Messages, and the check runs on the next message.
It works outside email. A patient name or a password leaks just as easily into a Slack thread, a LinkedIn message or a support ticket reply. Presend checks those too.
It checks the writing. A local voice check compares the draft with your own sent messages and tells you when it does not sound like you. A separate check flags AI phrasing and the hidden characters that come with text pasted out of a chat window.
Your own rules. You write rules in plain English and give each one a severity: a note, a warning, or a stop until you confirm. On Team, rules are shared across the organisation.
Privacy
Presend does not store message bodies. What it keeps is a one-way hash, enough to count and deduplicate but not enough to rebuild what you wrote, and the voice profile stays in your browser.
Zivver keeps data in the EU and uses encryption that it says even Zivver cannot read. If you need that guarantee for data you send to others, that is a reason to keep it.
Pricing
Zivver sells per user, billed annually, through plans whose prices are not shown on its pricing page. Presend is free for 25 AI checks a day with local rule checks and voice scoring unlimited, $3 a month for Pro, and $29 per user per month for Team. Some teams run both: Zivver for the emails that must be encrypted, Presend for everything else people send.
And if a message has already gone to the wrong person, our guide on how to send a correction email covers what to write next.
Stay with Zivver if
- You must send sensitive data outside the organisation encrypted, with proof of who opened it.
- Your regulator or your contracts require EU-hosted secure email with an audit trail.
- Your main risk is files: large attachments and the wrong document going to the wrong person.
Switch to Presend if
- You do not send data that needs encryption, and you are paying for it anyway.
- You want each person to be able to install the check without an IT project.
- Your mistakes happen in Slack, LinkedIn and support tools as well as in email.
- You want the writing checked too, not just the data.
