Confirmation on Every Message, or on the Ones That Matter

SafeSend's model is simple and it works: every message to an external domain gets a dialog listing the recipients and attachments, and the sender confirms. The strength is that nothing external leaves unconfirmed. The weakness is the same thing — after a week, the confirmation is muscle memory, and the day it matters is the day it gets clicked through like the other two hundred.

Presend takes the opposite bet. External recipients are surfaced on every message, listed by address in the panel, but the send is only interrupted when a finding is classed as risk: a credential in the body, a number shaped like an SSN or card, a phrase your company banned, or a rule you wrote firing at risk severity. Warnings sit beside the draft without blocking. The gate stays rare, so it stays meaningful.

Which bet is right depends on your organisation. Regulated environments often want the first. Teams that have already learned to ignore a dialog usually want the second.

The Outlook Desktop Caveat

This is the honest limitation and it belongs near the top. SafeSend runs inside the Outlook desktop application. Presend is a Chrome extension: it runs in Gmail, in Outlook on the web, and in every other web page with a compose box. If your people write email in the desktop Outlook client and nowhere else, Presend is not an alternative for them.

If they write in a browser, the comparison flips. SafeSend does not exist in Gmail, and it does not exist in Slack, LinkedIn, Zendesk, HubSpot or a Google Doc comment, all of which leak the same credentials and customer data that email does.

What Presend Checks That SafeSend Does Not

SafeSend's content check is a keyword list an administrator maintains. Presend ships ten checks and lets each user add their own:

• Credentials — known vendor key prefixes, and anything the sentence labels as a secret: "the password is", "here's the API key", even when the value matches no known format.
• SSN and card patterns.
• Attachment mentioned but missing. "See attached" with nothing attached.
• Link mentioned but missing. "See the link below" with no URL.
• Empty subject, missing sign-off, and a company named in the subject but not the body.
• AI phrasing — assistant leftovers and constructions that read as model-generated, with suggested replacements.
• Banned phrases your team has ruled out.

Then two engines that a keyword list cannot replicate: a slop detector that returns clean, traces or slop, and a voice check that compares the draft with your own sent mail and underlines the sentences that drift.

Rules People Write Themselves

SafeSend's DLP list is central. In Presend, the person who keeps making a mistake writes the rule for it, in plain English, and picks the severity — warn, or block-until-confirmed. "Flag any message to an address outside our domain that names an unreleased product." "Warn me if I promise a date without a specific day." On Team, rules are shared across the org and can call a webhook or your own API for a check that needs your data.

SafeSend is pushed by IT and licensed per user per year, with volume tiers; UK public-sector list prices start around £24 per user annually. Presend is installed by each person. Free covers twenty-five AI checks a day with local rule checks unlimited; Pro is $3 a month; Team is $29 per user per month for shared rules, Custom Actions and the dashboard.
