Boomerang alternative for checking an email before it goes, not after
Boomerang schedules sends, brings back emails nobody answered, and scores drafts for reply chances with Respondable. Presend checks what is in the message before it goes: secrets, missing attachments, outside recipients and writing that reads like AI.
If you use Boomerang for Send Later, reminders and read tracking, keep it. Presend does none of those, and the two run side by side without trouble. If the part you care about is a check on the draft itself, and you want that check to catch mistakes rather than predict replies, Presend does that job, for $3 a month, in more places than Gmail.
What Boomerang does
Boomerang is an add-on for Gmail (a browser extension) and Outlook (an add-in), with iOS and Android apps. It schedules emails to send later, brings a message back to your inbox if nobody replies, pauses incoming mail, tracks responses and schedules meetings. Respondable is its writing assistant in Gmail: it reads the draft as you type, predicts how likely it is to get a reply, and rates things like politeness, positivity and subjectivity. The advanced machine learning version of Respondable is on the Pro and Premium plans.
Why people look elsewhere
- Respondable predicts whether you will get a reply. It does not stop a message that carries a password, the wrong client's numbers or a missing attachment.
- The advanced Respondable is on Pro at $14.98 a month, billed annually, which is a lot for a draft check.
- It lives in Gmail and Outlook. Messages in Slack, LinkedIn and support tools go out unchecked.
- Tuned for replies, drafts drift toward the same short, upbeat shape everyone else's tools produce.

Before Send and After Send
Most of Boomerang works after you click send. It holds a message until the time you chose, brings it back if nobody answers, and tells you when it was opened. Those are useful, and Presend does none of them.
Presend works in the second before send. It reads the message you are about to send and asks whether anything in it should stop you: a password or API key, a card or social security number, a file you said you attached and did not, an address outside your company, a phrase your team has banned, or a draft that reads like a chatbot wrote it. If it finds something serious, it asks you to confirm before the message goes.
So the honest comparison is narrow. It is Respondable, Boomerang's draft checker, against Presend's checks.
Respondable Predicts Replies. Presend Catches Mistakes.
Respondable reads your draft as you type and predicts how likely it is to get a reply. It rates tone (politeness, positivity, subjectivity) and gives advice based on data from many messages. If your work depends on getting answers to cold emails, that score can help.
It is not built to catch the errors that do damage. A message can score well for reply chances and still contain the wrong client's pricing, a credential copied from a terminal, or "see attached" with nothing attached. Presend ships checks for exactly these, plus the rules you write yourself in plain English, such as "warn me if a message offers a discount without a ticket number in the subject."
The Writing Check Goes the Other Way
Tools that score for replies tend to push every draft toward the same shape: short, upbeat, a question at the end. Readers have seen thousands of those.
Presend checks in the other direction. A local voice check compares your draft with emails you have sent and tells you when it does not sound like you, with the sentences that drifted underlined. A separate check flags AI phrasing, like the openers and closers in our list of ChatGPT words to avoid in email, and the hidden characters that come with text pasted from a chat window.
Run Both
Boomerang and Presend do not get in each other's way. Keep Boomerang for scheduling and reminders, and let Presend check the message before it leaves. If a reminder brings back an email nobody answered, our guide on how to follow up on an email with no reply has templates for the next message.
Presend is free for 25 AI checks a day with local rule checks and voice scoring unlimited. Pro is $3 a month. Team is $29 per user per month for shared rules, webhooks and the dashboard.
Stay with Boomerang if
- Send Later and the no-reply reminders are what you use every day.
- You want read receipts and response tracking.
- Reply-rate scoring is changing how you write cold or sales email.
Switch to Presend if
- The mistakes that cost you are in the message itself: a pasted key, a wrong number, a forgotten file.
- You write in Slack, LinkedIn or support tools as much as in Gmail.
- You want a check that measures whether a draft sounds like you, not like the average email that gets answered.
